Lil Ryan Update
Well Ryan continues to do well. Both the doctors and nurses continue to tell us that its a matter of time for him to get everything coordinated. He saw the speech therapist to help with some feeding issues. We changed bottles because the one he had he had to suck to hard to get anything out and it was too much work for him. He eats well for Tom but not for me. We are still going twice a day. Once in the morning and once for his dinner feeds. Its getting harder to leave him. I’m no good when I do feed him because at night he’s all tired and usually won’t wake up but I don’t try very hard either becuz all I do is kiss him. Even the nurse laughed at me. Today they brought up Occupational therapy and I laughed. Come on..the poor kid is a week old and already they want to see if OT has anything to say. Just add another charge to the bill. Can we please get him to stop having his “brady” spells (his heart rate drops for a few seconds which is normal for preemies) and get his feeding tube out before we bring OT into this. I refused that advice. Sorry!! We’ve been there done that. In the mail, we got a certificate stating that we have helped another person by donating our cord blood [http://www.givcord.org/]. It was a good feeling to know that they got it and it will help , hopefully save someone else. It was important to me to do that. In fact, I made my sister run the packet over to the hospital quick before I went into surgery. Luckily we got it just a week earlier. Thanks everyone for all your nice cards, flowers, and balloons. Our neighbors Kendra and Jeff through a bottle of Champagne tied to a ballon into our pool. Very clever idea. Thank you for that. I’m feeling much better today. I could walk up to the unit without being hunched over or in pain. But I am still taking it easy. We have more pictures, I just need to see if Tom is willing to put them up tonight. Sometimes I look at the pics and I’m still amazed that Ryan is mine. The name alone sometimes baffles me. Everything happened so fast its weird. But both Tom and I agreed that we are happy it was a boy. Tom said with both girls being so sick he feels better we had a boy. No recessive genes in this one. So again, thank you all for keeping up with us. Until next time…….

HI Julie,
This is Beverly.. I use to work at west feild in the lunch room, ( me, terri, and kari)
WOW!! 1st of all congrats on little Ryan.. I had no idea you were having a baby.
I’m so glad to hear he is HEATHLY & DOING WELL.
I happened to find your website in my book marks and was like wow!!
I know we have not talked since last may (07) I had a baby Boy Dec2 07.. His name is Dakota we call him “CODY” for short.. Please read up on him. www.dakota-cody.com.
He’s 7 months old now and never yet got to come home.
he was born with a diaphragmatic hernia. his intestines/stomach entered his chest, which had caused his left lung to be compressed, and his heart to shift to the right, and that his chances of surviving the surgery were 50/50. he has been at chicagos childrens since the day he was born. But Cody’s doing great. close to coming home..
Just waiting on home nursing =(
I wish you and your family the best and I’m soooo glad to hear you had a baby!!!
Love, Beverly

Julie,
It is SO nice to here of Ryan’s progress and hear the joy in your words. No one deserves this happiness more than you Julie, as well and Tom and Thomas. Ryan is a gorgeous baby boy.
I know what you mean regading being amazed over his name as well. I too, think a baby boy makes an excellent addition to your family. It is so nice for Thomas and Ryan to have each other as well.
I lost my firstborn at 34 weeks following life-threatening injuries I sustained in a car accident. Her name was Alexandra Marie. That was ten years ago. When we had our son Joshua, I was hoping for a girl….really just a healthy infant…but you know. It was the best thing. We had another child 19 months ago, a girl Gabrielle. I was in total amazement that she was mine. Even her name amazed me as well. They are such blessings.
You have endured what no parents should have to endure, and you deserve this joy lil’ Ryan in bringing.
God Bless you all, I think of you guys everyday!

Dear Julie, Tom & Thomas,
I am so overjoyed and excited when I read your words and see those pictures! Ryan is sooo cute and he doesn’t even look like a newborn anymore. He must really be growing.
This has been such an emotional time for all of you. You have so may people and well wishers in your corner, but I think Jessie is your #1 fan. She truely had a part in this miracle.
I am at a loss for words but only to say you are all wished the BEST in times to come and that love surrounds you whereever you go.

Julie, you look amazing in those pictures! Such lovely pics. what kind of bottle did you switch to?, I am always on the lookout for new products/ideas for feeding techniques. I just did an evaluation on a little 6 month old (1 month premature), that still has the NG tube and struggles to get past a 2 ounce feed. The little one is so precious, just like your little one. I am sure that your little Ryan will just speed along and be home guzzling bottles in the middle of the night with you and Tom. Best wishes as always… Becky

Hi Tucker family,
Sounds like the little guy is doing great. When the girls where born they were 5.5 weeks early, so they too had to have the feeding tube. One thing was nice was that they were put on a schedule right away so when they did get to come home they were use to it. Take the time for the recovery from the c-section cause once he is home it will be a lot of up a down as you know. The girls did not finish their bottles all they time so they had to do the push for them. Just remeber he is in great hands in the NICU, those nurses are the BEST!!!!! He’ll be home sooner then you think.

I got on just to see how things were going since you said you’d probably have the baby at the end of July and when I saw “Lil Ryan Update” I was shocked and then realized “Oh, my gosh, she already had the baby.” Then I saw that it was over a week ago and feel horrible that I just found out now. We are SO HAPPY FOR YOU–CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Ryan is adorable and you look great too!! I have to agree about the C-Section. Although I never had a vaginal delivery to compare it with, from the first time I saw both during Lamaze class I planned on having a C-Section and both of mine weren’t that bad, so you’ll be back to normal before you know it. You all continue to be in our thoughts and prayers and we look forward to meeting Ryan when he gets home. -The LaCroix’s MDKKP

Julie~
I was wondering if I could have your email address. I do not know what you have for Ryan. I have a navy blue Baby Bjorn carrier that was barely used. I used it with my son, but my daughter wasn’t that into it.It is in beautiful condtion, freshly washed and in it’s box. I also have some Gymboree infant boy outfits…in beautiful condition. If you or Tom could send me your email adress I will let you know all that I have.
*hugs*
